I don’t know about you, but I am beyond ready for some football. The South is steeped in religion, sweet tea and college football, and right about this time of year, we start itching to see our gridiron gladiators return to their hallowed stadiums to wage fearsome battles for supremacy (especially against that other team that shall remain nameless). And, praise be, not only does Pensacola now have its very own college football team — the University of West Florida Argonauts — but Appleyard gets to be a part of the team, creatively speaking anyway.
We recently shot and edited a UWF Argonauts hype reel to generate excitement for their inaugural football season and pump up the fans before kick-off at home games. Staging and filming a partial football team playing a mock spring game on a baseball field in the middle of July was a challenge, to say the least, but we had too much fun to grumble about anything but the heat. Over the course of a sweltering day (the kind of wet-blanket heat that only fellow swamp dwellers can truly appreciate), we shot footage of
players’ scrimmages and fan reactions in the stands of Blue Wahoos Stadium, where the Argonauts will play their home games. The Argo football players and cheerleaders were excited to be a part of the video and show off their skills, and the APP’s creative team was thrilled to turn the raw footage into a sensational, hype-worth video. The video opens with dramatic music and fast-paced shots of Argonauts suiting up and lining up for battle. Real-time, pad-crunching football action is juxtaposed with
slow-motion footage of football players, fans, cheerleaders and mascots. Drone footage of Pensacola Beach and Bayfront Stadium help tell the unique story of UWF Football and our area.
The Argonauts will take to the field for real starting this September, so buy your tickets and get ready to roar for some homegrown football! We’re still putting the finishing touches on the video, but check back soon. In the meantime, here are some stills for a sneak peek.
